I managed to catch the last five minutes (pout) of Holiday Inn this morning.

I’d never heard of Marjorie Reynolds before, but she looked absolutely darling singing “White Christmas” in the fanciest pair of snow boots I’d ever seen (as someone who grew up with snow and ugly duck boots, I notice these things).

Morning breakfast of late. There’s really nothing more yummy than a buttery, soft and flaky croissant and a hot cup of coffee.

Also, am I the only one who refuses to pronounce them “kwah-sahn” when ordering? I know the French pronunciation, but good lord, it seems so presumptuous. I honestly want to flick people in the ear in line ahead of me when they do it!

Mad Hattery has become quite the infatuation recently. I can’t get enough of hats on others and I’ve admittedly been influenced to go back to my hat-wearing ways. I hadn’t worn any since moving to California, but winter is the perfect time to pop one on and go.

If this post were a Friends episode, its title would be “The One Where She Writes Too Much To Make Up For Not Writing At All For Two Months.” Yes, it would be that kind of epic long title, a kindred spirit to Fiona Apple album titles that are only ever known by the first few words.

I don’t know why I never write anymore. I suppose by the time I get home from work, I’d rather get in boyfriend-and-cat cuddle time than be on the computer (a week can go by without me turning it on at all!). I’m probably just lazy and not enough happens in life to write about too often.

Accordingly I have only one piece of semi-important—or rather muchly-exciting—news. I finally bought a car. It’s a Mini. And it’s purple. Which makes my twelve year old self so, so happy. It’s really so pretty and cute and fun to drive that sometimes I want to scoop it up and snuggle it. Seriously, it’s a car love affair.

Work is still going well. I had my 90 day review last week, and I don’t at all feel like I’ve been there for three months already!

I really do not excel at the writing bit of this, but it’s fun to share current obsessions, which I believe are much more entertaining to everyone else as well.

P.S. If anyone knows where to find a pizzelle maker at a store (not online, I don’t think it’ll get here in time without paying huge shipping fees), I would be most obliged. Christmas isn’t the same without pizzelles.

As you can probably tell, I’m more than slightly obsessed with trains nowadays (taking them daily will do that to you) and it’s exciting to realize how many of the existing stations are old Southern Pacific Railroad and therefore quite old. Watching them pass by slowly every morning is a rather ideal way to start the day.

So…now I am getting into the groove again of being an employed person, thank you very much, even if it does mean Baby Griff (my cat) no longer speaks to me. Oh, kitties, you mean little enigmas. He makes me pay for not being around to play ball with him. Or feed him, I’m not sure which he’s annoyed about, really.

New job is going rather well—I was so lucky that I got to begin with a four day week. So far very little in the way of bus crazies and the train is always pleasant. Just half an hour trip, a little less than what I could drive it! It feels a bit bizarre working with lots of math but otherwise I quite enjoy the work. It’s nice having something to do with my days rather than sitting at home.

I took a quick jaunt home the week before work began, which inevitably drained quite a bit of my energy before beginning. But I was quite glad to see my family and friends again (thank you for breakfast, Miss Sarah, and the yummy James Dean!), so I suppose residual sleepiness is an appropriate price to pay. I also finally got to see Old Salem—I lived there five years without ever getting the chance to stop—and it was rather lovely. Very old, smelling of boxwood—a smell I have been informed is a somewhat acquired taste, though I find it lovely and nostalgic rather than putrid—and paved with rocky bricks and cobblestones. I would love to go again when it’s truly open but for now, I’m just glad to have gone at all.

I had planned this to be more of an update than it has become, but I promise to do much better at posting now!
